Gray Ram Tactical hosts safety seminar on reducing school violence in Wardsville

WARDSVILLE - As safety and security is a big concern for parents sending their kids back to school in about a week’s time, Gray Ram Tactical, a national training and consulting firm in Higginsville hosted a school and community safety and security presentation at the Blair Oaks High School Auditorium on decreasing and preventing school violence.

The keynote speaker of the event and Senior Consultant for Gray Ram tactical, Bret Brooks says he has hosted similar workshops for not just schools but businesses and government agencies as well.

Much of the emphasis of Brook’s presentation Monday night dealt with limiting violent media for young children and the effect it has on them as they develop into adults

Brooks says violent media has become more prevalent in today’s age and encourages parents to monitor what games and movies their children consume.

“More and more video games today, more and more violence in TV, movies, and everything else. It’s amazing how much more violence we have in a movie today. By the time a child in America turns 18, they have witnessed 16,000 murders on screen.”

Brooks adds that the violence they see on screen continues to desensitize kids to violence.

According to the American College of Surgeons, school shootings have increased more than 12 times since 1970 and reached record highs in 2020.
